The quick verdict

Think twice if You want a game where careful planning matters more than nerve and luck
How we rate it
Learning curve. Hit or stay, don't repeat a number: the rules fit in a minute. The only adding up is small totals at the end of each round.
Luck & skill. The draw decides a lot. Your choices are when to stop and whom to hit with Freeze or Flip Three, and keeping track of which numbers have gone helps a little.
Interaction. Action cards let you freeze the leader or force a rival to draw three cards, and everyone watches each flip together.
Set-up. Shuffle the deck, find a pen and paper for scores and deal one card to each player.
Reading. Numbers only, apart from three action-card names in English.
Learning curve: 1 = UNO or Connect 4; 3 = Catan; 5 = a heavy strategy game. These describe the experience, not an overall score.

- Carrying along on trips; the current 2nd Edition comes in a small tuck box
Skip it if
- You want a game where careful planning matters more than nerve and luck
- You usually play as a couple; the rules are written for three or more
- Someone at your table hates being knocked out of a round by one unlucky card

How Flip 7 plays
Set-up: shuffle the 94 cards and pick a dealer, who also plays. Keep pen and paper handy (The Op also has a free scoring web app), because you play several rounds until someone reaches 200 points. The dealer gives everyone one card face up; an action card dealt this way is played straight away.
- Time to teach: about 5 minutes.
- Reading and language: Number cards need no reading. The action cards carry a few English words (Freeze, Flip Three, Second Chance) that are easy to explain in Hindi or any language; the rules are in English only.

A turn, step by step
- 1Deal
Everyone gets one card face up; action cards are played straight away.
- 2Choose
On your turn, hit to take another card or stay to bank the points in front of you for this round.
- 3Bust
Turn over a number you already have and you score nothing this round, unless a Second Chance saves you.
- 4Win
Seven different numbers earn a 15-point bonus and end the round. The game ends after the round in which someone reaches 200; the highest total wins.
The full explanation: how a game of Flip 7 goes
A turn: going round the table, each player either says 'hit' and takes another card face up, or 'stay' and banks the points in front of them for this round. Number cards go in a row. Flip a number you already have and you bust, scoring nothing this round. Modifier cards (+2, +4, +6, +8, +10 and x2) add points and can never make you bust.
Action cards stir things up: Freeze makes a player stop and bank at once, Flip Three forces them to take three cards in a row, and Second Chance saves you from one repeated number. You can aim Freeze and Flip Three at anyone still in the round, including the player who is running away with the lead.
How you win: the round ends when everyone has stayed or bust, or as soon as someone collects seven different numbers, a 'Flip 7' worth 15 bonus points. Add your numbers, double them if you hold the x2, then add the plus cards. The game ends after the round in which someone reaches 200 or more, and the highest total wins.
Tip: the deck has twelve 12s but only one 1, so high numbers are far more likely to repeat. Cards from a round aren't shuffled back in until the deck runs out, so keeping an eye on what has already gone helps you judge when to stop. For very large groups the rules suggest adding a second deck beyond 18 players.

The Op lists 94 cards for the 2nd Edition. The split into 79 number, 6 modifier and 9 action cards comes from Board Game Arena's game help and the rules text; The Op doesn't say how many of each action card there are. Keep pen and paper for scores; The Op also offers a free scoring web app and a printable score sheet. The first printing came in a bigger box with the same game.

What reviewers and players say
Reviewers describe Flip 7 as a light, lively press-your-luck game that pulls in everyone at the table, from children who know their numbers to grandparents. The Spiel des Jahres jury, which nominated it in 2025, praised the greed, gloating and nervous excitement a simple deck creates, and noted that much depends on the mood at the table. Fans like that it needs no set-up and plays quickly with big groups. Critics point out that luck decides a lot, that play can stall while people check scores before aiming a Freeze or Flip Three, and that the 15-point bonus feels small. Families who want a quick, loud game for a crowd tend to love it; players looking for deep strategy usually don't.
What people love
- Rules that take a minute, so the whole family can play at once
- Everyone watches each flip, so even players who have stayed stay involved
- Action cards add interaction and big swings
- Works with very large groups from one small deck
Common complaints
- The luck of the draw decides many rounds
- Play can slow down while people check the scores before choosing a target
- A Freeze dealt as your first card can end your round at once; one reviewing family house-ruled it away

Questions people ask about Flip 7
Is Flip 7 available in India?
Yes, as an import. There is no Indian edition, so the copies sold here are The Op's English deck, printed in China; Indian store listings name Yes Papa Games as the brand bringing it in. Our Amazon.in button goes to a listing that names USAOPOLY, The Op's parent company.
How many players can play Flip 7?
Three or more. One deck covers up to 18 players, and the rules suggest adding a second deck beyond that, which makes it handy for large family gatherings. The rules don't include a two-player mode.
What age is Flip 7 suitable for?
The box says 8 and up. The main skill is spotting a repeated number and adding small totals, so reviewers say younger children who know their numbers can join in with a little help.
How do you score in Flip 7?
Add up your number cards, double that total if you hold the x2 card, then add any +2 to +10 cards. Seven different numbers earn a 15-point Flip 7 bonus, and a bust scores zero for the round. The game ends after the round in which someone reaches 200 points.
How can I tell The Op's Flip 7 from look-alike decks?
Check for The Op logo and USAopoly's name on the box, and count the cards: 94, with numbers from 0 to 12, six modifier cards and nine action cards. Decks sold under other brand names, or unusually cheap ones, are not made by The Op.
