Full verdict ↓Great for Two people who enjoy a quick, competitive puzzle
Think twice if You need seats for three or four: Fast Fun is strictly for two
How we rate it
Learning curve. The corner-touching rule is quick to learn. Planning around the other player and keeping openings takes practice.
Luck & skill. No dice, cards or hidden information. The result depends on the placements the two players choose.
Interaction. Both players compete for the same space, so blocking is central to play.
Set-up. Put out the board and separate the 21 red and 21 blue pieces. Allow extra time to prepare the pieces on first opening.
Reading. No words on the playing pieces. One person needs to read the rules before the first game.
Learning curve: 1 = UNO or Connect 4; 3 = Catan; 5 = a heavy strategy game. These describe the experience, not an overall score.

How Blokus Fast Fun plays
Each player takes the 21 red or blue pieces. The 14 × 14 board has two marked starting points; your first piece must cover your starting point.
- Time to teach: about 2 minutes.
- Reading and language: Blokus is all coloured shapes on a grid, with no words, numbers or cards. Once one person has read the short rules, anyone can play, whatever language they speak, so it works well when grandparents and grandchildren sit down together.
A turn, step by step
- 1Set up
Each player takes the 21 red or blue pieces. The 14 × 14 board has two marked starting points; your first piece must cover your starting point.
- 2Place
Take turns placing one piece. Each new piece must touch one of your own pieces at a corner, and must never share a flat edge with your own colour. It may touch your opponent’s pieces in any way.
- 3Keep space
Spread into open space while keeping routes available for your remaining shapes. Once placed, pieces stay put. If you cannot place a piece, pass while your opponent continues.
- 4Score
When neither player can place another piece, score minus one point for each square left in your unplayed pieces. Placing all 21 pieces earns 15 points, with another 5 if the single-square piece was last. The higher score wins.
